BUNCRANA ANTI-WATER TAX CAMPAIGNERS HOPEFUL OF DEAL WITH IRISH WATER ON METERS

first_imgA meeting will take place today between anti-water tax campaigners and Gardai in a bid to come to a peaceful solution to the proposed installation of water meters in Buncrana.Donegal protestors at a previous march. Pic by Northwest Newspix. The Buncrana Against Irish Water group have met to discuss the best way to oppose the fitting of meters in their area. The group brought their proposals to local Garda Community Liaison Officer Sgt Barrett in an effort to mediate with Irish Water contractors. Spokesman for BAIW spokesman James Quigly told Donegal Daily they are hopeful of a sensible outcome.“We think it is worth investigating the possibility of an agreement whereby the subcontractors could install meters in properties who want them but accept the wishes of those who do not want them,” he said. And the group’s spokesman added that they do not wish any kind of confrontation with Irish Water workers.“We do not want violence and I am sure the gardai don’t either. It is up to Irish Water, GMC Sierra and the government now, do they want to resolve this confrontation peacefully?” The working committee is representative of most areas of Buncrana and suggest all activists and those households in the penninsula who are against Irish Water railroading the installation of meters to form groups locally.Mr Quigley addd “Remember Irish Water can not cut your water off, cannot take money from your wages, pension, wages or dole.“We advise everyone even those who have signed the so called contract, those who are unable to confront Irish Water on your property, those who are tenants or landlords to put up our sign or written No Water Meter here.”   BUNCRANA ANTI-WATER TAX CAMPAIGNERS HOPEFUL OF DEAL WITH IRISH WATER ON METERS was last modified: February 11th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:buncranadonegalGardaiwater meterslast_img read more
